Although it is generally widely acknowledged that there are many examples of a strong, positive hockey community in HB, with a significant number of dedicated people doing fantastic work, there are aspects of Hawkes Bay Hockey’s (HBH) culture we feel need addressing.
Culture is built from the ground up and we need everyone to contribute towards building a positive culture. A few weeks back, led by Greg Nicol, we had a conversation with you and listened to your feedback about what cultural aspects are important to our community. Our HBHA Team are continuing to rollout ideas and communication from that conversation. Similarly, the HBHA Board is keen to see change (try something different).
As a result, the HBHA Board has formed a Culture Committee to assist with this. Representatives from your Board on this are Joanna Sloan and Dan McAleese, as well as our Community Hockey Manager, Greg Nicol. To achieve success with this, we need the support of you, our community. Some of the first steps for the committee will involve in the near future, inviting representatives from all Clubs to participate in a meeting, with school representatives invited to a meeting at a later date. All umpires will also be asked to complete a short, anonymous survey.
The HBH Board want to make it clear that unacceptable behaviour from the minority will not be tolerated and we will be doing everything we can to create a safe and positive environment for all.
