2018 Schools Hockey

Primary Grades

Season Information –  Kiwi Sticks (Yr 5 & 6) , Mini Sticks (Yr 3 & 4) & Fun Sticks Competitions

Below all key dates and playing days for the season.

Pre Season Coaches/Managers/Umpires meeting will be held on Thursday 3rd May – 6pm @ Park Island

Funsticks Season Info

Welcome to the 2018 Funsticks programme.

To the 2018 Winter Funsticks players welcome and we hope you enjoy the programme.

Winter Funsticks is held on Saturday Mornings and will be held this year at three locations – Napier Intermediate School, Taradale Primary School and Unison Hockey Stadium in Hastings.

  • Season starts on the 12th May
  • Session times each week is 8.30am
  • No Play Days – Saturday 3rd June due to Queens Birthday

Small Sticks Season Info

  • Competition  for the Mini Sticks and Small Sticks starts Saturday 12th May
  • No Play Days:
  • Saturday 2nd June – Queens Birthday

    Saturday 14th & 21st July – School Holidays

  • Duration of comp is 13 weeks
  • Please note that competition games are played on the first weekend of July School Holidays – Saturday 7th July

Playing Days

Funsticks starts Saturday 12th May and runs until the 7th July

Mini Sticks Dev & Mini Sticks (Yr 3 & 4) play  Saturdays for 13 weeks finishing on the 25th August

Kiwi Sticks Dev & Kiwi Sticks (Yr 5 & 6) play Saturdays for 13 weeks finishing on the 25th August

Coaching Course

  • A Small Sticks Coaching Course will be available in May for all teachers and parents. Further details of the course will be available in the near future.
  • Hockey New Zealand has an online coaching portal that all new and current Coaches can access:  https://hockeynz.brackenlearning.com.  Feel free to log on and work through modules at your leisure.

Cancellations

Junior Hockey – Winter cancellations

In the unlikely event of cancelling Saturday morning hockey for Funsticks, Mini Sticks and Small Sticks we would be posting to Facebook at 7.30am on the Saturday morning. Hockey is played rain or shine and would only be cancelled if there were flooding or cold chill factors.

If a team does not want to play in certain weather conditions then that is the teams decision.

If a team is going to need to default from a Saturday game please contact the Hawke’s Bay Hockey office by 3.30pm Friday afternoon so we can contact the opposing side.

Game Result Recording

  • The preferred method recording the result is the game cards which are available at both Park Island and Unison and once the game has finished place your completed cards into either the slot at the front door at Park Island or the box located in the dug out at Unison.  Please ensure you circle the grade your teams is competing in.

Funsticks

  • Taradale Primary School location registration numbers are limited and is open to children of Taradale Pirmary, Puketapu School and Bledisloe School.  All other Napier school based children will be located at Napier Intermediate.

Mini Sticks Dev, Mini Sticks and Kiwi Sticks Dev Teams

  • Teams from the Havelock North & Hastings area’s will play at Unison Hockey Stadium
  • Teams from the Napier area will play at the Park Island turfs

Kiwi Sticks Teams

  • Kiwi Sticks teams will play at both Unison & Park Island turfs

Ground Abbreviations

  • Cape turf = Park Island Turf
  • Big Save turf = Park Island Turf
  • UHS = Unison Hockey Stadium

Season Info

  • Team Sheets outlining registered players are to be completed by Friday 5th May
  • Competition starts – Division 1 & 2 on Tuesday 8th May
  • Competitions starts – Division 3,4, & 5 on Friday 11th May
  • No play days – 9th July – 20th July – School Holidays

Competition Structure

  • Games will be held at either Park Island or Unison Hockey Stadium
  • Each division is limited to 8 teams maximum
  • Teams can be separate boys & girls or mixed

Grading

  • First two weeks of competition are grading weeks – 8th/11th May and 15th /18th May. Format will be three shorter games each night (total of 6 games in the two weeks) and teams to be graded based on results.

Umpiring

  • All teams will be expected to provide own umpires. If your school is interested in attending or hosting a Learn 2 Umpire Course please let Andi Cullen know.

Secondary Grades

Season Info

Girls Div 1 & 2

  • Division 1 & 2 start on Thursday 10th May
  • Finals for Girls is on Thursday 23rd August

Boys Div 1 & 2

  • Division 1 & 2 start on Wednesday 9th May
  • Finals for Boys is on Wednesday 22nd August

Boys & Girls Div 3 & 4

  • Competition starts for Boys and Girls Div 3 & 4 on Monday 7th May
  • Finals for Div 3 & 4 on Monday 27th August

Grading

  • Div 1 & 2 your first two weeks of competition are grading weeks – 9th/10th May and 16th/17th May.
  • Div 3 & 4 your first two weeks of grading are 7th/14th May.
  • Format for all grades will be three shorter games each night (total of 6 games in the two weeks) and teams to be graded based on results.
  • Registrations close on the 13th April
