Primary Grades

Information with all key dates and playing days for the season ahead in 2019 are below:

No Play Days

No Play Days for Winter 2019:

  • Saturday 1st June – Queens Birthday weekend
  • Saturday 13th & 20th July – School Holidays

Cancellations

Junior Hockey – Winter cancellations

In the unlikely event of cancelling Saturday morning hockey for Funsticks, Mini Sticks and Small Sticks we would be posting to Facebook at 7.30am on the Saturday morning. Hockey is played rain or shine and would only be cancelled if there were flooding or cold chill factors.

If a team does not want to play in certain weather conditions then that is the teams decision.

If a team is going to need to default from a Saturday game please contact the Hawke’s Bay Hockey office by 3.30pm Friday afternoon so we can contact the opposing side.

Small Sticks season information

Mini Sticks and Kiwi Sticks key info – please note all registration links have been emailed to the Teacher in charge of sport and the links are also in News under Registrations have opened.

  • Registrations open on the 18th February
  • All team entries are due on the 12th April
  • Competition starts on Saturday 11th May
  • 13 week season finishing on the 24th August

Please note that competition games are played first weekend of July School Holidays – Saturday 6th July

Funsticks Season Info

2019 Winter Funsticks

Welcome to the 2019 Funsticks Hockey registration. Funsticks is a fun 8 week programme for Years 1 & 2 primary school children, introducing them to fundamental skills of hockey.  Winter Funsticks is held on Saturday Mornings and will be held this year at two locations – Park Island Napier and Unison Hockey Turf Hastings.

Funsticks – starts Saturday 11th May and runs each week until the 6th July.

  • Please note there is a non play day on Saturday 1st June due to Queens Birthday
  • Will run for 8 weeks
  • For individuals in either Yr 1 or Yr 2 and are new to hockey
  • Cost per player $40.00
  • Session times each week is 8.30am.
  • Registrations can be done by registration form submitted by schools. Please check with your school for details.

Pre Season Meeting

A Pre Season meeting will be held for Coaches, Managers and Umpires on Thursday 2nd May @6pm at Park Island pavilion.

Game Result Recording

  • The preferred method recording the result is the game cards which are available at both Park Island and Unison and once the game has finished place your completed cards into either the slot at the front door at Park Island or the box located in the dug out at Unison.  Please ensure you circle the grade your teams is competing in.
  • Email comps@hbhockey.org.nz at any time if you need assistance or send results

Funsticks

  • Park Island hockey turfs and Unison Hockey Stadium in Hastings.

Mini Sticks Dev, Mini Sticks and Kiwi Sticks Dev Teams

  • Teams from the Havelock North & Hastings area’s will play at Unison Hockey Stadium
  • Teams from the Napier area will play at the Park Island turfs

Kiwi Sticks Teams

  • Kiwi Sticks teams will play at both Unison & Park Island turfs

  • Big Save turf = Park Island Turf
  • UHS = Unison Hockey Stadium

Intermediate Grades

 SEASON INFORMATION

Season Info, Play and Non Play Days

General:

  • Registrations open on the 18th February
  • Team entries are due by the 12th April
  • Team Registration sheets to be complete by Friday 3rd May

Competition starts

  • Division 1 & 2 – Tuesday 7th May
  • Division 3, 4 & 5 – Friday 10th May

Play Days

  • Division 1 & 2 on Tuesdays – 14 week competition finishing on the 27th August
  • Division 3, 4 & 5 on Fridays – 14 week competition finishing on the 23rd August

No Play Days

  • 8th – 19th July – School Holidays
  • 6th August

Please note that Division 3, 4 & 5 will play Friday 31st May and Friday 5th July (prior to Queens Birthday & July School Holidays)

Pre Season Meeting

Pre Season meeting for Coaches, Managers and Umpires will be held Wednesday 1st May @6pm – Park Island Pavilion

Grading

  • All teams will be expected to provide own umpires. If your school is interested in attending or hosting a Learn 2 Umpire Course please let Andi Cullen know via hcm@hbhockey.org.nz.

For all Teams the following three items info is the same:

  • Registrations open on the 18th February
  • Teams entries due by Friday 12th April
  • Teams registration sheets due by Friday 3rd May

Comp start dates:

  • Division Boys 1 & 2 Wednesday 8th May – duration 14 weeks
  • Division Girls 1 & 2 Thursday 9th May – duration 14 weeks
  • Division 3 & 4 & Colts Monday 6th May – duration 14 weeks Div 3 & 4 and 13 weeks for Colts

Finals

  • Division Boys 1 & 2 Wednesday 21st August
  • Division Girls 1 & 2 Thursday 22nd August
  • Division 3 & 4 & Colts Monday 26th August

Pre Season Meeting

There will be a Pre Season meeting for Coaches, Managers and Umpires on Tuesday 30th April @6pm at Park Island pavilion

Grading

Grading rounds have been removed and schools will enter teams into divisions where they believe is suitable.  There will be some flexibility in movement of teams betwwen the grades at the discretion of HBH.  Games will be 30 minutes halves.

  • All teams will be expected to provide own umpires. If your school is interested in attending or hosting a Learn 2 Umpire Course please let Andi Cullen know.
