Season Information –  Kiwi Sticks &  (Yr 5 & 6) , Mini Sticks (Yr 3 & 4) & Fun Sticks Competitions

Information with all key dates and playing days for the 2021 season can be found below.

Small Sticks season information

Small Sticks – Mini Sticks, Kiwi Sticks Development & Kiwi Sticks Competitions 

The 2021 Competition will commence on the 16th May and will run for 11/12 weeks with the last week on the 21st August.

  • These competitions will be based at Park Island & Unison Hockey turf
  • Grades – Mini Sticks (Yr 3 & 4), Kiwi Sticks Development (Yr 5 & 6) and Kiwi Sticks (Yr 5 & 6)
  • Game day is Saturdays
  • 12 week competition
  • 6-a-side, quarter field for Mini Sticks & Kiwi Sticks Development grades and half field for Kiwi Sticks grade
  • 20 minute halves

Funsticks Season Info

Winter Funsticks is a fun 7-week programme for Years 1 & 2 primary school children, introducing them to fundamental skills of hockey.

  • Please register your child through their school

Funsticks will be held on Wednesdays at Park Island, Napier and on Fridays at Unison Hockey Stadium, Hastings.

  • Funsticks Napier runs 16th June – 11th August 2021 – Park Island
  • Funsticks Hastings runs 18th June – 13th August 2021 – Unison Hockey Park
  • Please note, there is no play during school holidays 12th– 24th July
  • Will run for 7 weeks
  • For individuals in either Yr. 1 or 2 and are new to hockey
  • Cost per player $45
  • Sessions run 4:00 – 4:50pm
  • This registration is per individual, not team

Pre Season Coaches/Managers/Umpire Meeting will be held on he 30th April at 6pn – Park Island.

Grades Playing Days and Duration

Game Day for all Saturday’s

  • Mini Sticks Development (Yr 3 & 4) – 1/8 of a turf – 11 week duration
  • Mini Sticks (Yr 3 & 4) – 1/4 turf – 12 week duration
  • Kiwi Sticks Development (Yr 5 & 6) – 1/4 turf – 12 week duration
  • Kiwi Sticks (Yr 5 & 6) – 1/2 turf – 12 week duration

No Play Days

  • 5th June – Queens Birthday
  • 12th July to 23rd July – School Holidays

Cancellations

Junior Hockey – Winter cancellations

In the unlikely event of cancelling Saturday morning hockey for Funsticks, Mini Sticks and Small Sticks we would be posting to Facebook at 7.30am on the Saturday morning. Hockey is played rain or shine and would only be cancelled if there were flooding or cold chill factors.

If a team does not want to play in certain weather conditions then that is the teams decision.

If a team is going to need to default from a Saturday game please contact the Hawke’s Bay Hockey office by 3.30pm Friday afternoon so we can contact the opposing side.

Funsticks

  • Park Island hockey turfs and Unison Hockey Stadium in Hastings.

Mini Sticks Dev, Mini Sticks and Kiwi Sticks Dev Teams

  • Teams from the Havelock North & Hastings area’s will play at Unison Hockey Stadium
  • Teams from the Napier area will play at the Park Island turfs

Kiwi Sticks Teams

  • Kiwi Sticks teams will play at both Unison & Park Island turfs

Ground Abbreviations

  • Cape turf = Park Island Turf
  • Big Save turf = Park Island Turf
  • UHS = Unison Hockey Stadium

Game Result Recording

  • The preferred method recording the result is the game cards which are available at both Park Island and Unison and once the game has finished place your completed cards into either the slot at the front door at Park Island or the box located in the dug out at Unison.  Please ensure you circle the grade your teams is competing in.

Intermediate Grades

 SEASON INFORMATION

Season Info for 11 a side

Kwik Sticks – Intermediate Hockey 11 a side

The 2021 Division 1 & 2 competition will commence on the 11th May 2021 and will run for 13 weeks with the last week on the 17th August.

  • These competitions will be based at Park Island & Unison Hockey turf (exception is 7 A side all at Park Island)
  • Competition days are Tuesday’s
  • 13 week competitions

The 2021 Division 3 competition will commence 14th May and will run for 13 weeks with the last week on the 20th August.

  • The competitions will be based at Unison Hockey turf
  • Competition days are Friday
  • 13 week competitions

New 7 aside Division

7 A Side – Division 1 & 2

The competition will commence on the 14th May and finishes on the 20th August.

  • The competition is held every Friday.
  • 13 week competition.
  • The venue for 7 a side is Park Island only.
  • Half field only is used for each game.
  • It is purely 7 aside – can be 7 field players or 6 players plus a padded goalie.
  • No kicking fullback.

In alignment with the Hockey New Zealand Strategy review and current tournament offerings like AIMS, HBHA is now offering 7-a-side Friday night competitions. The format will allow schools the opportunity to enter a smaller sided and field competition. For ease of registrations, Division 1 will be for competitive teams and Division 2 will be for social teams and both will help schools who struggle to field a full field team.

Pre Season Meeting and No Play Days

  • Pre Season Meeting for Coaches/Managers and Umpires will be held on the 5th May at 6pm at Park Island
  • There will be no Kwik Stick hockey from the 12th to 23rd July – School Holidays

Grading

There will be Pre Season meeting for Coaches, Managers and Umpires on the 6th May at 6pm at Park Island.

Grading

Schools are asked to register their teams according to level and experience to the best of their knowledge. Depending on the size  of the division entries, divisions may require a grading round to determine best fit for each team.

HBHA reserve the right to regrade teams during the season after consultation with schools.

Umpiring
